SOCIAL ENEMIES IN BTF-CHECK

Here the festival opener SOCIAL ENEMIES with their check. So don't forget to be there on time on Thursdays.

Which machine do you not want to be part of? We do not want to belong to the greedy and externally determined masses who dutifully do what is prescribed for them. We are motivated to question the social conditions and to go our own way, as a social enemy.

Try to describe in a few words what it is like to be a social enemy. Being a social enemy means living in a self-determined manner and still questioning one's own actions, standing up for solidarity with one another and still finding the sore points of humanity and drilling into them through our texts in order to identify and name social problems.

What is important for you at a gig? We want people to have a cool time, treat each other with respect and enjoy the music. And when one or the other person is stimulated to think through our music and shakes the dance floor, then it was a terrific gig for us.

DSH IN BTF-CHECK

DEEP SHINING HIGH are putting the lid on the festival this year. Then read her check and stay awake until the last volume.

You are from Dresden, how often have you been a guest at the BTF? Of course, this varies internally. The maximum was probably seven times! And a visit to the festival goes to our singer with his old band “Drunken Bastards” in a Wolfgang Petry costume. Luckily I (Felix) wasn't there, haha!

What makes punk rock still distinctive in 2019 compared to other styles of music - not just purely musically? Okay, in a nutshell: Punk is still about taking matters into your own hands. The scene thrives on D.I.Y. - by the people for the people. That's why people aren't unattainable stars, but people like you and me. It's friendly, has character and has given the kids the impulse to "learn" instruments and form bands from the very beginning. It's not magic and everyone can become part of it and, above all, everyone can have a say in the discursive negotiation process of the self-image of "punk". That's another thing I love about punk rock. It's a great springboard because you're given all the freedom and you decide what you do with it and how you define "punk" for yourself. It starts with the style of music and ends with your own life plan. And don't forget to fuck off!

Who has the most beautiful bathing boxes for the forest pool? Now I'm wondering, isn't there nudism?

Beheader or ass bomb? Ass bomb! But naked so that the water goes up to the brain. Should help against dehydration every morning!

Finally, a quick joke. You would have to be an archaeologist. It doesn't bother anyone if you come to the office with a skull.

Totally crazy, completely unbelievable...

...simply unbelievable, we managed the totally impossible, the local heroes from Pott come over to us and play! When you can breathe again, here is your check:

When would it be time for some new songs again? There are always new songs coming out, just not from the local heroes...

Suddenly and unexpectedly you are there again. How do you put your joy into words? It cannot be put into words, you can only see it on site. So, buy all the tickets and watch the locals rejoice!

When breathing at rest, an average lung breathes half a liter. How many liters do you do exercises for before going on stage? 200ml.

How do you people from the Ruhr area describe the BTF? A bit like Teletubby - Land, only with beer and punk rock. So everyone is happily walking around, the sun is shining, and at the end everyone is screaming: "Ooohh... again, again"! You can't escape the charm of it all.

TCHIK in BTF-CHECK

For the first time, the dead Crackhur are not with us. Not singer Lulu anyway, she has BTF experience. We are pleased to be able to present the band to you with this fantastic new album. But first to their short interview.

You know the festival, are you looking forward to the Boyz? To be honest, I can't remember the Boyz from the last few years . We always played last and by then it was already dark. Of course I have hope for lots of cute boyz.

Will you please us with your presence for several days, or can we just lick our fingers one day after you?  Oh, I think a few of us will definitely arrive earlier and take whatever happens with us. Unfortunately, I still have something to do the evening before.

How much beer will you have to walk around and stress out?  We tend to do that when we don't get beer quickly enough. So be careful!

Unfortunately you have no influence on the guest list, but who should be Minus 1 on it?  I have such problems with the Saxon police. And in general everyone who supports the AFD, NPD, Third Way or other carnival associations.

Are you telling us a politically incorrect joke?  So of course we don't have anything like that, or I'm really crap at telling jokes. I'll save it for the stage.

Nasville Pussy in BTF-CHECK

We're as excited as hell about this bastard brat. But we're not any less happy about it. Nashville Pussy make their debut with us, which we can look forward to based on singer Blaine's answers. Read it yourself.

Blaine, the festival is mostly punks 'n' skins. Is there anything you would like to tell them in advance? Well, I'm something of an original hillbilly punk and I'm bald too. So I should fit in quite well into both groups. I'll be the punk with the cowboy hat.

Have you ever heard of our festival? Uh, to be honest, I just found out that we were playing there and went straight to see it, hahaha. We're currently concentrating on our upcoming US tour with Guitar Wolf and Turbo Ac's. Still, I'm really happy to know that we're playing at a punk festival. We definitely don't play enough of them. I love metal festivals, but I feel more like a punk. Hey, what a great night it will be? UK Subs, Poison Idea, Subhumans, that's totally crazy!

What do you like about open airs? It's like a circus event that comes to a city and it's a lot of fun. The visitors are partying like crazy and there is organized chaos behind the stage. I always thought we were made for such a big stage and we keep trying to prove it. In fact, that's how we spent the last 21 years and had the best moments of our lives there. I want to play festivals, even if I'm pushed to the microphone in a wheelchair.

What are your three favorite drinks, other than beer! Aaargh, I love German beer. But well, when I don't drink beer, I like the following on hot days:

  1. Margaritas – Cinco de Mayo was currently being celebrated in my neighborhood and I wanted to join in. A pitcher of ice-cold margaritas makes me crazy, but it makes me happy.
  2. Mojitos – Our old bassist works at the bar and would always ask for all the ingredients on tour. She also mixed fresh herbs and other stuff into it. If you know how to do it, it's incredibly tasty.
  3. Vodka – Anything with vodka. That makes me funny. Well, at least that's what I think. Unfortunately, I'm very impatient and pour everything into vodka. Diet Coke, for example, is horrible, but if it doesn't go fast enough...

QUIZ

Of course, the quiz is happening again this year. After all, a lot of people had a lot of fun last year, right? However, it's not as long and difficult this year, don't worry. So if you want to secure your ticket for 2020 this year, you should look out for the quiz copies at the tent counter from Thursday evening.

LOIKAEMIE IN BTF-CHECK

In December 2014, no one would have expected LOIKAEMIE to take a stage again. This summer it will come true again for us. But before that happens, read what Thomas says.

You're back, how come? Again, that's not entirely true. We were in contact with each other the whole time and met again this year in the rehearsal room. We discovered that it was a lot of fun and suddenly we all wanted to play. We don't know what comes next. We're back here for this one evening, and then we'll see. There are plenty of inquiries.

What's the mood like in the rehearsal room? As if nothing had changed. On the contrary, it's more fun than before.

What makes the BTF so important to you that you return to the stage with us. The BTF has been with us for many years. Both as a band and privately. We visited the festival ourselves many, many years ago and later played there often. Many of our friends go there or work there. It is the unique mood and atmosphere that prevails there. No stress, just nice people, with a clear idea in terms of content and politics. No business, no strange bands with strange pasts or strange fans, and so on. There are many reasons, for us it's the scene, friendship, vacation.

What can we expect from you? A musical cross-section with one or two effects.

Who will push who into the water? We all each other? That would be something.

FCKR IN BTF-CHECK!

The Saubande has some catching up to do from last year. We're really happy that it's working with FCKR again in 2019, it'll be fun. Here is your BTF check.

You have around 30 more concerts scheduled until the end of the year. How do you feel about this mammoth task? Well there are about 20 if we want to be correct, but maybe some more will be added and then it's about right, hehe. We are really looking forward to it, especially now with a new line-up (now four of us) and are approaching the leisure activities that lie ahead with benevolence, fascination, excitement and anticipation.

Uh, I count at least 23 and you'll definitely get the off days taken care of too. But let's move on: What about new songs now? Can we expect a new recording in the foreseeable future? Yo, we were already recording, everything is in the pressing plant and we are currently waiting for the test pressing. It'll be a small mini-album with 6 new songs and maybe we can present the disc for BTF. We hope the best.

Yeah, that sounds good! Please finish the sentence: The Back To Future is... A small and fine punk rock festival where we always meet lots of new and old friends, which is usually a lot of joy and fun.

What does punk rock wellness mean to you? We didn't know that punks do wellness. We always thought it was about hard work on yourself versus the stupidity of society. But it's true, sometimes people need to recover from it and switch off. However, we are more in favor of demolition than of body-focused and wellness-oriented needs. And from!!!

PUNKROIBER IN BTF-CHECK!

Do you want to know from real BTF professionals what it's like at this festival? Then read their festival check and you'll know.

You know the BTF, explain it to those who don't know.
A big punk rock family get-together with a slightly aging audience (same as the festival), mixed with fit punk rock youngsters and without a dick parade and trash fight at the end! Always a great selection of bands, a great audience with no poser types looking for stress, no annoying truffies, super nice crew and a beautiful area! What more do you want? Oh yes, bands that celebrate together with the guests on the grounds/campsite or in the outdoor pool! That's BTF!

Who or what are you most looking forward to? UK Subs, Marky Ramone, Poison Idea and The Briefs! And of course to the multitude of acquaintances and friends in and around the festival, combined with funny moments and stories that you will still tell when you are old!

Which of you is actually not allowed in the swimming area in the forest pool and why? Depends on the time of day! Except for Lars' kids, they're there again, but they're still too small for the swimming area. It probably depends on the alcohol consumption of the individual band members. Maybe it would be good to introduce a punk rock seahorse.

What does punk rock wellness look like to you? Chatting, drinking a beer, talking shop, laughing, meeting old acquaintances, getting to know new people every now and then, browsing records, swimming and of course dancing.

Bath program

Guys, the forest bath is waiting for you! On Friday we start there with NO HONEY IN PARADISE and the MELMACS. On Saturdays you can come for breakfast and lunch before PIY gets started or you can choose to play volleyball or bowling for advanced players.

Well and due to high demand there is a cocktail stand for the first time this year. Yes, we finally understood that with a pool like that you need the right drinks.

NO HIDDEN COSTS

We don't charge €5 extra for a car ticket at the campsite, €5 extra for a tent, €3 extra for the festival shuttle and at least €10 extra for a garbage bag as well as €1 extra for any information! The robbers are screwed, we have no desire for hidden costs in 2019 either. These costs are all included in our ticket prices. Off.

Of course, we'll still be happy to push garbage bags into your hands. After all, the prevailing conditions also bother us in terms of environmental friendliness and sustainability. That's why it's good to be different from the majority in this respect!

THE MELMACS!

Yeah, our second Friday Waldbad band are the power pop punks Melmacs from around the corner, with the magical Bimmi on the mic. A sound like it was created especially for a swimming pool. Shreds.

MISSSTAND IN BTF-CHECK!

Hey you Ösis from MISSSTAND, come to us and take a break from your political Punch and Judy show. Well, it's no different here either. No matter, just come, it's your first time. Be honest, how often do you forget the third “s” when writing a band name? We actually never forget the third “s”! After ten years in the band, that would be a bit stupid, right?

And how often do organizers forget this? Actually quite often in the past. Especially on old concert flyers. Quite rare now. I recently read it with four "s" and was absolutely delighted!

Have any of you ever been a guest at BTF? Unfortunately never. The problem, as with most German festivals, is that they are all super far away. If you always have to drive 10 hours to every festival, you'll think about whether you'd rather drive to a festival that's closer. In principle, we think Back To Future is very cool and we might already be regular guests if it weren't so far away! But let's just let ourselves be surprised! Otherwise you can find us every year at the Punk Rock Holiday in Slovenia. It's really nice there too!

Which band are you looking forward to seeing? Since we were confirmed for the festival, everyone has been telling us to visit the Waldbad. I think this is the secret headliner of the festival. We'll definitely pack our swimming trunks! We're already playing on Thursday, but we'll stay there until Saturday. I'm particularly looking forward to seeing Loikaemie again. Otherwise there are really a lot of great bands playing there. Among other things, our friends from Alarmsignal and Deserted Flag, but also other cool bands like MASKED INTRUDER, PASCOW, POISON IDEA or EGOTRONIC. I think the line up this year is really successful and I'm looking forward to three days full of swimming fun, cool bands and familiar as well as new faces!

THE BRIEFS IN BTF-CHECK!

There were crew members who almost fainted when we confirmed The Briefs. It's understandable somehow. By the way, the image of the BTF check is exclusive from Zigpix's last London show. Yeah it's off.

What's it like being on the road with The Briefs again? Steve: That's fucking great. We're better than ever and it's great to go back to cities we love and meet up with old friends there. It feels like we have something to prove at every show and we do it. Pretty nice way to go on stage like that. A stable new album obviously helps. Daniel: Right. It feels like the break never happened. Like Steve said, we're finally seeing people we haven't seen in ages, which is a really cool side effect of touring. So when we're on stage, it's the same as always: the audience goes wild and we go with it. After the show we all have fun together and then go to sleep. The next day it starts all over again. Everything is totally normal.

Have you heard about the Back To Future? Steve: We've been doing this long enough to know the festival. The line up this year is killer and otherwise it's a classic punk rock event. Well, we also know that we've never been there before, but we're looking forward to it.
Daniel: I've always wanted to play there. Fantastic bands and the after-show parties are meant to turn your life upside down. We're excited!
Pascal: I played at Back to Future almost ten years ago, with a kind of district revival revue in the tent. It was a great party! You usually have the most likeable line-up of all the festivals and are also incredibly serious in terms of business. I remember handing over money from a moving car on the Wahrschauer Bridge in Berlin. It was like a mafia movie, just great!

Are you under pressure because everyone expects you to go crazy on stage? Daniel: No, that doesn't bother us. We put on our best suits and stupidest sunglasses. Play all the hits, new and old, vary them and see how the crowd in front of the stage reacts to them. Let's go.
Steve: Oh no, we'll just do our best and put everything we've got into it.
Pascal: The pressure would be greater if people expected us not to go crazy!

Back then you released a new LP almost every year. Does that mean the next banger album is coming in 2020? Steve: Uh...yeah, sure.
Daniel: Actually it is. We're already writing it, there are some new songs in the pipeline. Maybe we'll do a double LP like the Eagles.

THE LADS- BTF-CHECK!

Oi! the boys from Freiburg are coming. That sounds like a lot of nonsense in the cheeks and elsewhere that the guys from THE LADS are saying. Here is their festival check:

What is Realpunk? There is the idea that Oi! punk was also called new punk or real punk because it could be seen as a kind of antidote to a 'mainstream development' of the original punk. This also fits the assumption that a very large number of the early 80s generation of skinheads used to be punks because their punk-ness didn't offend and shock enough with regard to this development. Oi! differs only slightly from punk in terms of sound, if only because certain bands from a certain area in a certain period of time perhaps just happened to make a different sound. What I'm ultimately saying is that the difference doesn't really matter because punk is just punk, which to a certain extent you shouldn't or don't want to reinvent. This means that the term Realpunk is more of a description of the attitude towards the values of Oi!/Punk/Skinhead, and less a description of the sound - although it has to be said that we want to make the punk sound the way we define it as punk, i.e. it has to be “real”. So you can say that it's not necessary to describe it that way, but it's also cool because it's individual and a bit arrogant to label yourself that way (considering that in a scene like ours, people are always careful to be extremely "real") and it reflects an understanding of punk/skinhead - but in terms of sound, realpunk is just Oi!. Maybe I just wanted to give us some of the monotony of today's Punk/Oi! Defining music without reinventing the wheel, because I think we don't quite fit in, both in terms of sound and attitude.

You're really shaking up the south. Is one of your gang really a whale fish operator and what's going on now? Jens was a partner for a short time. Now the whale is probably gone for good. We're in a bit of a crisis when it comes to the subculture here because there isn't really a place that does concerts and also a lot of people have moved away, had children, dropped out (traitors!) or joined the Scientologists. There are also a few punks - but they are such blatant punx that you don't know them! What's even worse is that there are now only 4 skinheads left in Freiburg. With such a pitiful group, it doesn't help much that 2 of them are pretty badass. Ergo: We have a shitty scene but cool bands – Habitual Drinkers, Brutal Bravo, The Lads and Drinking Squad.

Your label boss Hechti from Contra Records said we should lock you up again immediately after the performance before your party gets out of control. How do you understand that? We don't know what he means by that. We only did what was expected of us at Contrabash, but mostly at our own expense - so they were mostly victimless crimes. Konne tried out the legendary board game "Hide and Seek", someone who wanted to remain anonymous pissed in the stairwell after falling out of the bunk bed because he couldn't find the toilet. I emptied a bottle of shampoo into our drummer's face. And Tomme (Brutal Bravo) gave our guitarist a black eye WHILE HE WAS SLEEPING. The less attention we get, the more schnapps we drink - the more schnapps we drink, the more nonsense we do. Imp is actually pretty good and sometimes pisses in the apartment. By the way, the complete report will be available in the new issue of the heroin fanzine. I can't tell you much about our drummer, the 'FETTFUCKER VON HUGSTETTEN', except that they call him the 'FETTFUCKER VON HUGSTETTEN' because he is the 'FETTFUCKER VON HUGSTETTEN'. Another problem is that all the bleeders constantly fall in love with our singer in the prime of their lust. While this is flattering, it can also be uncomfortable. We get it, the grass is green, the juices flow, the red blood cells carry oxygen and so on, but let me tell you, it is not just an object! By the way, Kostja and Konne are official members of the 'Fettfreunde Freiburg', which means we like to talk about diabetes, fatty food and sometimes swap one or two fat recipes. But we have decided that everything should be different at BTF! This time we want to present ourselves as particularly mature and also make sure that everyone gets along. In this regard, there will be an American-style 'safe space' at our campsite where 'fat shaming' is strictly prohibited.

Which of you has the highest Clorix consumption? Konne once made himself a pair of domesthos pants. It's pretty much the coolest thing you can wear - with the skins you're cool and the normal citizens laugh at you when you walk around with them. The others don't dare do it or simply don't know what's cool. I sold Majus a pair of Domestos pants and he wears them sometimes, but he's also a huge idiot who runs around with a VoKuHiLa and therefore doesn't embody what's cool. It's amusing that you call it Clorix, while we call it Domestos. What's also pretty cool is sewing a crazy paisley pattern fabric cloth onto the collar of the donkey jacket. We're still not sure what we're going to wear. We don't want it to be too warm on stage, but on the other hand we also want to show all the punks what cool skins we are. It would be awesome if we created a Facebook survey about it and basically let the mob dictate what we wear.
